The Department of Biomedical Engineering was started in the year 2004 offering a B.Tech degree in Biomedical Engineering. The biomedical engineering is a field that integrates Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology to find solution for medical related problems. The demand of engineers with background in biology and medicine is growing rapidly. The biomedical engineers play key role in designing and developing new medical instruments, deploying the emerging information infrastructure, creating new biomaterials and medical desires. Biomedical engineers are highly valued by new companies capitalizing on the revolution of the applications of advanced computers to biomedical problems. Students with biomedical engineering degree will find rewarding careers in health care industries, hospitals, medical schools and research institutions. The Mission of the department is to provide high quality in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in bio medical field and to use that to perform multidisciplinary research oriented education where innovation, discovery and entrepreneurship becomes part of everyday life and to develop the students with high ethical standards who are able to conduct themselves professionally for sustained contribution to the society and finally have the ability for independent and lifelong learning in the context of technological changes. The department has well-equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories including the medical instrumentation lab, microbiology and biochemistry lab, diagnostic and therapeutic lab, signal and image processing lab to meet the requirements of Pondicherry University to the fullest. Apart from these, our students undergo internships at various organizations such as PULSUS, Schiller and in hospitals like MGMCRI Hospitals, MGM Health Care, Apollo hospitals, Global Hospitals to name a few. Several MoUs between RGCET and organizations like SBV University, Tamar Health Care Pvt. Ltd, I-Skills Training Institute to name a few, help students and faculty in remarkable research collaborations. The department has healthy interactions with the industry and hospital experts are invited to deliver lectures, conduct sponsored workshops and for other diverse activities to help the student community in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the core industries and their applications. One of the great advantages of studying biomedical engineering at RGCET is the opportunity for the students to get hands on training at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (MGMCRI) and MGM Health Care Multi-speciality Hospital which is an integral part managed by Sri Balaji Educational and Charitable Trust.
